A Tribute to The Castaleers, a providence-based doo wop quintet who made their moves at a time when they were still in Junior High School and Rhythm and Blues music was not on anyone’s radar. Practicing and performing simply for the pleasure of it, they grew into a well-honed, professional act which secured a contract with a national record company and competed with the superstars of the day. This exhibit will tell their story with original portraits created by RILA artist Niko Tolentino, music, oral histories, and a memory wall.
La Galería del Barrio, located inside the Southside Cultural Center (SCCRI) on Broad Street, is Providence’s first urban art gallery dedicated soely to the art of Latinx, Afro-Latino and Indigenous-Latinx art. The show runs from October to December 2024.
