Why is state funding needed?A vast majority of victim service orgs in Rhode Island rely heavily on federal funding. At Sojourner House, 80% of our budget comes from federal dollars. That funding though is inconsistent and decreasing. One example of this is the 40% decrease we saw in Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funds last year.
Victim service organizations are seeing an increased demand for help. To meet this need, they need the state to step up– especially to support the most vulnerable members of our community.
Without this funding, organizations like Sojourner House and many others cannot sustain the critical services survivors rely on.How you can help
