90’s Boston was lousy with poppy alt rock: The Pixies, Juliana Hatfield, Belly, Lemonheads, Letters To Cleo, and then this band Fuzzy who didn’t really get the buzzbin hit those other bands had. A lot of bands slipped through the cracks.
A couple months ago I got a message from Hilken – she’s all “do you remember me from Fuzzy and The Mardi Kings? I have this 10 song album.” She was humbly describing an incredible album she’d made with Hilken Mancini Band.
Hilken Mancini Band is very much Fuzzy adjacent, but new and better. I think it’s her best work yet – but will scratch that itch for Fuzzy fans as well.
Hilken Mancini (Fuzzy) is on guitar/vocals, Winston Braman (Fuzzy/Thalia Zedek/Consonant) is on Bass and Luther Grey (Tsunami) is on Drums and Melissa Gibbs (Heavy Stud/Gymnasium) on vocals and guitar.
