Come learn about building for space exploration! In this hands-on workshop, meet members of RISD Astro, a team of RISD students who are building a model space rover. Learn about some of the things that engineers think about when building for space travel, such as making things light and sturdy with the use of carbon fiber, and try it out yourself! We’ll have 3D molds and paper mache that you can use to mimic the process of making a carbon fiber object.
While you’re here, meet some of the scientists from LunaSCOPE, an international team of scientists based at Brown University and supported by NASA that is working to explore the mysteries of the Moon and help chart a path for future human exploration in the Artemis missions! You can touch a piece of the Moon, look at computer models of the Moon’s surface, and learn from the scientists about why humans are going to the moon and what we might find and study there.
