On September 27th at 12:00PM ET the Pandemic Center will host a webinar titledMpox: A Public Health Emergency of International Concern.In August, the World Health Organization declared the mpox outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and neighboring countries a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). At the time of the declaration, the DRC had reported 27,000 mpox cases, mainly in children, and 1,100 deaths since the beginning of 2023. The WHO has since announced a six month plan to stanch the outbreak, which includes boosting surveillance, increasing staffing in affected countries and improving access to vaccines, among many other measures.This webinar will convene a panel of experts to discuss the current situation and what the global health community should be doing.It will be hosted byJennifer Nuzzo,Director of the Pandemic Center and Professor of Epidemiology at the Brown University School of Public Health.
