OTSUKIMI is the Japanese custom of decorating the Autumn full moon with rice cakes, food and plants to give thanks for the harvest.
We will introduce this with IKEBANA while enjoying Japanese Afternoon Tea. Japanese afternoon tea has a variety of treats including dumplings, rice cakes, moon shaped doughnuts, Japanese snacks, Japanese tea, coffee and soft drinks.
The full moon of 2024 is on the 16th of September. You will become a little more knowledgeable when you see the full moon in Autumn. We will introduce Japanese customs, the different ways of seeing the patterns on the moon in the world, experience the sound of autumn insects to see if you can hear their music, and finally hear the OTSUKIMI story for children with traditional picture slides.
Please come and join us on Friday afternoon. It will be like a short trip and adventure to Japan!
