RILA Teatro Camp | Voces Vivas: A Teatro Workshop for Latinx Teens

May 22 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Our Teatro Camp, a partnership with Trinity Repertory Company, is called YASI-lito. It is an all-immersive experience, designed to introduce teens to the world of bilingual performing arts. Young people will prepare a short, Spanish/English bilingual performance to share with families at the end of the week.

RILA Teatro Camp | Voces Vivas: A Teatro Workshop for Latinx Teens

Join us for a fun and educational 5-day teatro workshop where Latinx teens will bring Latino powerful stories to life through performance! Using RILA’s Nuestras Raíces collection of oral histories that focus on Rhode Island’s Latino communities, students will explore their cultural roots, develop acting skills, and create a final performance of scenes or monologues to share with friends and family. The Nuestras Raíces oral histories as collected by Marta V. Martínez, Executive Director of Rhode Island Latino Arts‘s (RILA), were the inspiration behind the La Broa’ play performance held at Trinity Rep’s main stage in January of 2024.

No prior theater experience is needed—just a passion for storytelling and a desire to connect with your heritage. Celebrate your voice, your history, and your creativity in this unforgettable journey!

The course is open to Latinx/Latina/Latino youth or those interested in exploring bilingualism, theater, and cultural expression. Instructors are fully bilingual and instruction will primarily be in English and “Spanglish.” The location is fully wheelchair accessible. This program is a partnership with Trinity Repertory Company and classes will be held downtown at Trinity Rep.
