In a prison-saturated Alabama town, two high school seniors, Hannah and Naomi,confront a stark reality: whether they like it or not, their futures are inevitably tied to the very prisons shaping their community. This 15-minute play captures a pivotal conversation on friendship, race, survival, and the criminal legal system defining America today. Join us for a staged reading of The Pact, inspired by real-life research in prison towns, with a community dialogue and reception to follow. Written by Kathy Ng’25 MFA Directed by Eric Emma Featuring Allison Jones’25 B/TMFA and Lucia Aremu’26 B/TMFA. The community dialogue will feature a conversation between John Eason, Associate Professor of Sociology and International and Public Affairs at Brown University and Lisa Biggs, John Atwater and Diana Nelson Assistant Professor of Africana Studies at Brown University. The Pact is produced by Brown University’s Justice Policy Lab and Chloe Haimson in collaboration with Africana Studies/Rites and Reason Theatre.
