Undue Burden: A Conversation with Shefali Luthra ’14 About Life and Death in Post-Roe America

Hear from Shefali Luthra, award-winning health reporter and author ofUndue Burden: Life and Death Decisions in Post-Roe America. Luthra’s work traces the real life stories of patients confronting the realities of the current abortion landscape following the fall ofRoe v. Wade. Joined in dialogue by Dr. Ben Brown’08 MD’12, Chief of the Section of Complex Family Planning and an attending physician in the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, the two will discuss the life-threatening consequences of limiting access to reproductive healthcare.Shefali Luthra’14has reported on national health policy for the past decade, most recently atThe 19th. Her coverage of abortion rights has been cited in Congressional testimony and Supreme Court briefings and in 2023 received an Online Journalism Award. Luthra’s writing has appeared inThe New York Times,The Washington Post, NPR, and more. She is the author ofUndue Burden: Life and Death Decisions in Post-Roe America. She lives in Washington, D.C.Dr. Ben Brown’08 MD’12 is the Mimi Pichey Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He is Chief of the Section of Complex Family Planning, and an attending physician in the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island.
