Sister Joan Rokicki of McAuley House

Sister Joan Rokicki, a Sister of Mercy from Providence, RI died peacefully on October 17, 2024 at Jeanne Jugan Residence, Pawtucket. Sister was born in New Bedford, MA, and was predeceased by her parents Walter and Mary (Medeiros) Rokicki and her brother, Michael Rokicki. She is survived by her sister-in-law Phylis Rokicki of Greencastle, IN, her niece Gretl Plessinger Rokicki of Tallahassee, FL and Ryan Rokicki of Newburgh, IN., in addition to great nephews, Michael Plesseinger and Ayden Rokicki; as well as her dear friends Sally Ewalt and Liz McGrath. Sister Joan has been a much loved and deeply respected Sister of Mercy who celebrated her 70th anniversary as a Sister of Mercy in September. Sister began her ministry as an elementary school teacher, followed by a period of time as a teacher for special needs children. She then began a 40 year ministry at McAuley House, in Providence. Through this ministry she touched the hearts of many, as she in turn loved and was touched by the people, her friends, that she met during this time in her life.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 24 at St. Paul’s Church, 30 Warwick Ave., Cranston, RI. Visitation hours are 9:15 – 9:45 am, followed by a Mercy Prayer at 9:45 am. Liturgy of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment will then take place at Resurrection Cemetery, 261 W. Wrentham Rd., Cumberland, RI, 02864.
