As many of you know, there is a Station Park Meadow Friends Group forming to help protect, maintain and grow this unique, urban greenspace. Last fall the meadow was mistakenly mowed down. As traumatic as this was to our staff, partners, volunteers and the plants themselves, the episode served as a catalyst for conversation and (more importantly) action in regards to how best to show appreciation and showcase this meadow as the green-achievement that it represents.
The Station Park Meadow Friends Group is charged with maintaining as well as developing educational and engagement opportunities to increase awareness of this urban meadow to commuters, community members, tourists and lovers of innovated green design. A place of purposeful respite and reflection in a transportation hub of Providence.
Volunteering at the Station Meadow is a rewarding opportunity for individuals, schools and businesses looking for ongoing team-building opportunities that foster meaningful connection to a Providence public green space receiving 100’s of visitors every day. It’s one thing to maintain a space that benefits you directly. It is quite another to lend a hand to an area you may not ever utilize. We are looking for caregivers cut from this cloth. Is that you?
If you are keen to get your hands dirty weeding, digging, planting, sign-designing, etc. alongside a team of likeminded volunteers, please email Rachel at rcolaiace@providenceri.gov. We are looking for dependable weekly, bi-monthly or monthly help between April – December and we promise this experience will leave you possibly depleted but definitely exhilarated in being part of a community working for the greater good.
