Helping Providence One Safety Ambassador at a Time

Nick | Downtown Providence

My day is actually beautiful. It’s nice out today. Finally. Hopefully it stays like this. But my day’s been cool. I can’t complain. My goal today is just to stay positive and just maintain my energy level. And hopefully I can transfer it over to the people that aren’t on my energy level. You know? Stay calm. Enjoy the weather. Simple as that. Yesterday it was raining. It was cold yesterday. So, I work outdoors no matter what the weather is.

From 100 degrees to 10 degrees, I’m outside. So, rain, sleet, snow. I’m kind of used to it. My body’s adjusted to it. But it was definitely cold. It should have been like that yesterday…

I’m a safety ambassador for the city of Providence… So, basically, there’s a clean team and there’s also a safety patrol team. The clean team, they change the trash. As you can see, there’s no trash on the floors, you know? Because of us. And then there’s a safety team. What we do is walk around, give directions. If someone needs help, emergency contacts, anything like that, we’re kind of just, like, a deterrence.

So, people just feel safe, you know? We’re always around all day… Yeah, so they make us wear these bright colors so that when you see us, it’s kind of hard to forget. So, if you go back home to another state, you’ll probably remember, there were guys walking around with, like, bright yellow shirts. You might not know what we do, but we’re like a staple in your mind.
