Robert (Bob) McGivney

Robert (Bob) McGivney died on March 10th, 2025. He was married to Virginia C. (Pelletier) McGivney on July 4, 1964. Born in Berlin, NH on November 7th 1933, he was the son of the late Leo and Blanche (St. Pierre) McGivney and the brother of the late Jean Rider and Donald McGivney.

He was a member of the UA Air Force for four years during the Korean War. He served 18 months in Tripoli, Libya, North Africa. He was a supervisor in the communication/cryptology segment of the Strategic Air Command (SAC). He was a graduate of Bryant University class of 1959 with a degree in accounting and was enrolled in the URI Masters in the Public Administration Program. He was a Federal Auditor with the US Dept. of Agriculture for 3 years. He served as Assistant City Controller for the city of Providence for six years and as a consultant, business manager and controller for the Providence School Dept for 20 years.

Survived by his wife, Virginia and four children, Michele M (Olaf) Smith, MT, Mark C (Betty), NJ, Margaret M. (Angel Munoz), MA and Monique M (Troy Noraker), AZ. Bob treasured his 7 grandchildren; Hope, Sophie, Alden, Mae, Trevor, Jordan and Justin. He leaves a brother-in-law, Br. Vincent C. Pelletier FSC and sister-in-law Nancy Pelletier.

Bob treasured his wife and children and they were the love of his life, providing him with the love, joy and security of a home. Of all the countless, trips, vacations and activities enjoyed as a family, foremost in all was the annual two week vacation with our beloved Starcraft camper at the Papoose Family Campground in Norway, Maine.

Visitation Friday, March 14, 2025 in the PONTARELLI-MARINO FUNERAL HOME, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence from 4:00 – 7:00 PM.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 9:00 AM in St. Pius V Church, 240 Eaton Street, Providence. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Pius V. Church would be appreciated.
