Samuel A. Manchester, born on March 26, 1947, in Newport, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A dedicated U.S. Navy veteran, he served his country proudly and later became a valued member of the American Legion.
For many years, Sam worked as a painter and sandblaster at General Dynamics Electric Boat at Quonset Point, where he made significant contributions before retiring. His commitment to his work was matched only by his dedication to his family and community. He is survived by his step-children, Frank E. Morse and his wife Lillian, Ritchie F. Morse and his wife Leslie, and Randy A. Morse and his wife Debra, Tammy L. Olszewski and her husband Frank, and step-daughter-in-law, Holly Morse. Sam cherished his large family, which includes nineteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and fourteen great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were a great source of pride and happiness in his life.
Sam is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Carlton T., Sr. and Ruth E. (Parker) Manchester, and his devoted wife, Barbara (Ames) Morse-Manchester; his step-daughters Brenda F. Crawley and her husband Ronald, and Donna M. Hanks and her husband Michael, as well as his step-son, Robert E. Morse.
