Joan E Kent, 88, of Mayflower Street, passed away on Thursday April 16, 2026, at Evergreen House Health Center. She was married to the late Lawrence E Kent.
Born in Providence, Joan was the daughter of Robert and Lillian (Smithers) Harrison. She spent much of her life in East Providence, where she served for many years as secretary to the Superintendent at the East Providence School Department. Joan also worked as a secretary for the State of Rhode Island’s Treasurer.
Active in her community, Joan volunteered with organizations such as the Scholarship Foundation of East Providence and the Rhode Island Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. She was passionate about arts and crafts, finding great happiness in making children’s blankets for the Project Linus.
She is survived by three sons: David A. Kent (Lynn), Bradford L. Kent (Laurie), and Mark E. Kent; her sister Judith A. Vollaro; her brother Robert Harrison (Pat); four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are scheduled for Wednesday, April 29, 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence, followed by a service at 1:00 PM.
