Jorge Sequeira Obituary
Providence – Jorge Sequeira, 92, born in Cape Verde passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 5, 2026. He is now reunited in Heaven with his beloved parents, Antonio and Libania (Lima) Sequeira, his dear brother John Sequeira and his cherished sisters, Madalena Sequeira and Fatima Rocha.
Jorge is survived by his loving brother, Manuel Sequeira of Sommerville, MA as well as many nieces and nephews whom he loved as if they were his own children. His family was the center of his life, and he took great joy in supporting and caring for each of them.
Jorge spent many years working for the Dutch Merchant Marine before immigrating to the United States and settling in Providence. As a head cook, he traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and North and South America, experiences that enabled him to learn several languages and develop a deep appreciation for different cultures. Singapore was among his favorite destinations. His travels reflected a lifelong curiosity, adventurous spirit, and love of people. After coming to the United States, he worked at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and later at Nyman Manufacturing in East Providence, where he remained until his retirement.
Those who knew Jorge will remember him as one of the smartest, kindest, most honest, and generous people they had ever met. He was always willing to help others and simply never knew how to say no. Even after working long days; often as many as sixteen hours, he would gladly drive someone to the airport, take a friend to a doctor’s appointment, or prepare a delicious home-cooked meal.
Jorge was an exceptional cook whose meals brought family and friends together. His generous heart extended far beyond his family, as he regularly helped friends, neighbors, those experiencing homelessness, and supported numerous charitable organizations. He lived a life defined by compassion, humility, and selfless service to others.
Jorge’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and community leave a legacy that will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
