[In response to Cannabis Corner? Nine Cooperatives Apply to Open Dispensaries on One Stretch of North Main Street published on June 5, 2026]
Definitely not a coincidence! Excellent local reporting by Eric Halvarson, many thanks to the Eye. My commute runs down Branch Avenue and I cannot imagine a worse stretch of roadway and series of intersections to try and build any new business on, let alone a dispensary when Mother Earth is one exit away. Ignorant drivers already annhilate the traffic pattern to try and get into Nikki’s and the delivery only exit (!!!) of Stop & Shop, so I can’t imagine a new flood of Meemaws and Peepaws not using their indicators will improve a local’s experience. Obvious cronyism and corruption in the application process for this one landlord (who probably lives in Mass) but what do we really expect from Rhode Island? “Let’s build a weed store at a busy inaccessible intersection down the street from an already enormously popular weed store” is some top tier logic brought to you by the usual suspects: fraudsters and opportunists disguised as small business owners and municipal leaders. Who cares about future community impact when you can skim some off the top and move on to gouging out the next loophole?

Your piece on the RISD Museum and the PAC [Historic Institutions Attempt to Combat “The Intimidation Factor” of the Art World, published June 3, 2026] is thorough and informative even to a long-time member of each. I particularly found out about the museum’s generous free entry times, and was introduced to the new museum director, and the direction the museum is headed. This is an outstanding example of the kind of reporting Providence Eye delivers. Thanks to you and the author.
