Lydia Moniz Obituary
MONIZ, LYDIA (Lima) 92, died peacefully on March 26, 2026. She is forever in the hearts of
her loving family and friends.
Born in Providence, Lydia was the youngest child of the late Joseph A. and Adelina (Mello) Lima.
She was the devoted wife of the late James Moniz, her husband of 60 years, and a beloved mother,
grandmother, and friend.
A long time East Providence resident, Lydia was a woman of deep faith and strong values. She
leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion. Her engaging and personable demeanor
endeared her to many people. An avid player of games—especially Cribbage, hi-lo-jack, and
Bingo—she delighted in all things sparkly (jewelry, clothing, decor).
For more than 40 years, Lydia valued her time working at East Providence Credit Union and
Pawtucket Credit Union—and the people she worked alongside. She was known for her ready
smile, trademark good cheer, and commitment to hard work. She retired (somewhat reluctantly) at
age 80.
Lydia is survived by her three children; Debra (Edward) Grady of Cranston, James (Maribeth)
Moniz, Jr. of North Kingstown, and Paul Moniz of New York City; her four grandchildren Lindsay
(Greg) Fawkes, Joshua Roberti, Cameron and Jessica Moniz; her sister Theresa Caduto of East
Providence; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings Mary Estelle
Santos, Joseph A. Lima, Jr., Mary D. Souza, Adeline Martin, and Manuel Lima.
Sincere thanks to the staff at Bethany Home for their kind, compassionate care of Lydia.
