Nelson M. Barbosa

Nelson M. Barbosa, 48, of Fall River, MA and formerly of East Providence, RI passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 from cancer.

Born in Providence, RI, he was the beloved son of Manuel and Zelia (Monteiro) Barbosa. He graduated from East Providence High School in 1996.  Nelson had worked as a service technician for EMSAR New England until his illness no

longer allowed him to do so.  Nelson loved being in the company of his friends and family debating about all kinds of hot

topics provoking and challenging people’s ideas. He used his knowledge and wit to discuss sports, politics and music while interjecting perfectly timed sarcasm for a good laugh.  Never leaving on bad terms knowing that he had his opinion and you were entitled to have your own.  Nelson loved being a product of the 80s and 90s and argued it was the best time to be a kid and grow up. During that time, he could be seen out with his friends and cousins playing pick-up basketball at the park, football in the street and endless video games. He cherished those times and relationships.

He was also a passionate Yankees and San Francisco 49ers fan through and through never wavering. He never hesitated to include his vibrant commentary on his opinion on plays and calls during games.  Though he loved Portuguese cuisine he also enjoyed cooking different recipes and experimenting with different ethnic foods and flavors to make it his own.

He loved to be with his nephews and aspired to be the “cool uncle” which he succeeded in many ways, but most memories included him taking them to the arcade and mini golfing.

Besides his parents he leaves a sister Tanya M. Gallagher and her husband Michael of Sharon, two nephews, Liam and Gavin Gallagher. He also leaves many cousins, aunts, uncles, and extended family whom he loved deeply.
