People in Providence 09.17 – Lorna

Lorna | Hope Street Farmers Market

“I just moved here from Kenya. I moved here for school at Brown for my PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering… Adjusting to life here hasn’t been like a shock because I have met a few people who are very kind, and they helped me adjust to getting around. I feel like what will be a shock to me is moving into the winter. I’m from an equatorial country and we don’t get any extremes… So that’s why I’m taking advantage of the sunny days, like just going out and sitting in the sun for a bit, because I know when it gets cold, it will be terrible. This will be my first time seeing snow, so I am excited for that at least… I’m not homesick, but I miss some bits of home. Like the people speaking Swahili and just getting to a place where I know everyone. Now, I just meet people really often, which is nice because I’m getting to experience new and different cultures and different ways of life than what I’m used to, so that is also a very cool experience as well.
