Which of Providence’s General Assembly Seats are Being Challenged This Year?

Nearly two-thirds of lawmakers across Rhode Island are not facing a challenger in this year’s election, and the same is true in the capital city. In Providence, only 10 General Assembly positions are contested.

Speaker of the House Chris Blazejewski and an entire half of Providence House Representatives Congressmembers will roll straight into their next term—the other seven districts are competitive. On the state Senate side, only three out of nine seats have more than one candidate.

What is the State Assembly?

The state’s legislative branch is split into two different voting bodies, like at the federal level. There is a Rhode Island House of Representatives and Rhode Island Senate. Officials are elected to represent districts across the state. There are distinct Senate and House districts in Providence. If you are unsure which district you live in, use our Voter Guide to receive an address-specific sample ballot or search your address on the Rhode Island Legislative Districts tool.
