Providence Election(s), by the numbers

Tuesday, November 4, was Election Day nationally. Many cities across the country hosted historic mayoral races; Providence, however, is mostly in an off-year, with the next general election for mayor to be held in 2026. Four candidates competed Tuesday in the Ward 2 City Council Democratic primary in a special election to replace outgoing Councilor Helen Anthony. 

Here are the election results and information about past elections in Providence generally.  While waiting for 2026, it’s a good chance to double check voter registration status.

Half — of registered Providence voters turned out in the 2024 general presidential election. In Newport, 67.1% of voters turned out

73.6% — of Providence voters voted for Kamala Harris in the 2024 general election

23% — of Providence voters voted for Donald Trump in the 2024 general election

A third — of Providence voters in the 2024 general election were millennials (born between 1981 to 1996), outpacing Baby Boomers (1946 to 1964), who made up a quarter of the total voter turnout in 2024.
