Bristol – Richard C. Pandozzi, known to family and friends as Richard, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Newport Hospital in Newport, Rhode Island, at the age of 80. Born on May 7, 1946, in Providence, Rhode Island, he lived a life marked by devotion to family, service to his country, hard work, and a warm spirit that touched many who knew him.
He was the son of the late Frank and Evelyn (Cerbo) Pandozzi and grew up surrounded by the values of loyalty, perseverance, and love of family that would remain with him throughout his life. Richard was also the brother of the late Rose Marie Campagnone and the late Barbara White. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews, all of whom will remember him with affection and gratitude for the kindness and humor he shared so freely.
Richard dedicated more than 20 years of his working life to the Providence Department of Public Works, where he served as a laborer and flagger. He took pride in his work and was known for being dependable, steady, and hardworking. His long career reflected the same strong sense of responsibility that guided him in all areas of his life. He understood the value of honest labor and the importance of contributing to the community, and he carried out his duties with quiet dignity and commitment.
He was also a proud United States Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam era. His service to his country was an important part of his life, and it stood as a testament to his character and sense of duty. Those who knew Richard appreciated the strength and discipline he brought with him from that experience, along with the humility and respect that defined the way he lived.
For the last 20 years, Richard made his home in Bristol at the Rhode Island Veterans Home, where he became part of a community that provided comfort, companionship, and care. He was also a former parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Providence, where his faith and connection to the church community were part of the fabric of his life. These places were meaningful to him and reflected the steady path he followed through the years.
Richard had many interests that brought him joy and allowed him to share his talents with others. He was an avid tennis player and also taught tennis, passing along his knowledge and enthusiasm to those who learned from him. He enjoyed traveling and appreciated the experiences and memories that came with seeing new places. He also had an interest in culinary arts, which added another dimension to his many gifts and reflected his appreciation for good food and the craft behind it.
He will be remembered as kind, funny, intelligent, generous, and spirited, qualities that made him a cherished presence in the lives of those around him. Richard had a way of making people feel comfortable and valued, and his sense of humor could brighten even ordinary moments. His intelligence and practical wisdom were evident to those who knew him well, and his kindness left a lasting impression that will not be forgotten.
Richard C. Pandozzi leaves behind a legacy of service, devotion, and warmth. His life was one of steady contributions, personal strength, and genuine care for others. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
He will be buried in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date, privately.
