Steven Hornstein Obituary
On March 20, 2026, Steven Hornstein, 68, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. Born in Providence he was the son of the late Abner & Evelyn (Granoff) Hornstein. He is survived by his sister Fay Pizer of Massachusetts.
Steven fought a valiant battle against cancer. Up until a few days before he passed, he was going out to eat for his favorite foods. He was a frequent customer at Maven’s Deli.
Steven was supported by the Fogarty Center since 1980. In 2020 he moved from Roland Street to Almy Avenue. He really enjoyed the smaller, quieter setting and frequently told us he was a ‘happy guy’. Steven was a great self-advocate. He was not one to do something he just wasn’t feeling. When asked he’d reply, ‘not today’!
Steven had the ability to bring joy to those around him. His smile, shy and sincere will always be remembered. He was truly loved by his staff and housemates.
Steven was a foodie at heart. He enjoyed everything from classic deli sandwiches, bagels, sherbert and matzo ball soup to smash burgers fries, seafood and anything Italian. Steven would enthusiastically request his favorite foods throughout the day. A good meal would bring on that great smile. Dessert was always a must-have after meals, between meals and everything in between.
Steven was proud of his Jewish faith. He enjoyed celebrating holidays, especially Passover and Hanukkah. He participated in rituals, songs and of course food.
