Raymond A. Salgueiro, 95, of Rehoboth, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, May 15, 2026. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Januario) Salgueiro.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Adelino and Natalie (Luiz) Salgueiro.
A proud veteran, Mr. Salgueiro served as an Army Sergeant during the time of the Korean War. Following his military service, he dedicated 38 years as the Head Boiler Engineer for Narragansett Electric until his retirement. Never one to idle, he spent his retirement working alongside his son Stephen in home construction and remodeling. In his later years, Raymond channeled his creativity into his workshop, crafting fine furniture and birdhouses, and took immense pride in designing and meticulously maintaining his home’s landscape. Affectionately known as Daddy and Papa, he was the most kind and loving person; he would help any person or animal in need. His connection with animals (both wild and pets) was unparalleled.
He is survived by his two daughters, Cynthia M. Jewett of Rehoboth and Cheryl A. Salgueiro of Riverside, his two granddaughters, Michelle M. Salgueiro of Nova Scotia and Stephanie R. Salgueiro of Warren, five great-grandchildren, and his brother, Farrell Salgueiro, along with many nieces and nephews. Raymond was predeceased by his son, Stephen R. Salgueiro; his son-in-law, William D. Jewett; and his siblings, Joseph Salgueiro, Louis Salgueiro, Richard Salgueiro, and Olympia Hunter.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 346 Waterman Avenue, East Providence. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
