Chrys Renee Bouyssou, 33, passed suddenly and unexpectedly in the hospital on June 2, 2026. He is survived by his husband, Marc Patrick Granato, and their three pets RT, Biscuit and Moka. An accomplished tattoo artist, activist, musician and performer, Chrys was born in Providence Rhode Island on April 15, 1993, to their mother Christine Bouyssou. An only child, Chrys had a difficult and lonely upbringing that gave him a cool and reserved exterior, which melted away with their close friends and companions.
Chrys went to high school in Cranston, Rhode Island and made many of his lifelong friends there who miss him dearly. They loved costuming and characters and had an incredible singing voice, favoring songs by 40s crooners and rock operas. Peggy Lee, old French singers, Repo and Rocky Horror, and a lot of jazz. Favorite summer activities were walking on the beach and going swimming, watching movies crowded around one overworked laptop, and baking at sleepovers. They made a mean pumpkin chocolate chip loaf. They loved bright colors and leopard print and trying out new hairstyles.
Chrys met Marc at King Richard’s Faire in Carver, Massachusetts in 2013 where they both were working as Village Cast Performers. This launched a romance that lasted through many twists and turns, years of separation, and finally rekindling during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. They celebrated their first official date on October 31, 2020, after Marc had helped Chrys move out of their apartment and they made their love, which had been occurring in secret, official. Marc was shortly thereafter deployed by FEMA to assist with the disaster recovery for Hurricane Maria. Throughout this time, their love kept strong and they spoke daily over text, phone, messaging application and video call. Upon return from his deployment, Marc drove through the night and into the early morning from the Georgia border, where he was living in an RV, to Chrys’ apartment in Providence Rhode Island, just to throw himself into their arms the moment they woke up. After this separation they vowed to never be apart for that long again.
Soon, they moved in together into a 21-foot RV trailer, traveling across the east coast, and living in campgrounds for work. Chrys loved to travel with Marc, and this lifestyle continued until October 2, 2023 when they moved to Worcester, Massachusetts and decided to put down roots back in the home territory of New England. Chrys became a fixture in the local Goth and underground scene, inspiring many with their vibrant personality and singular beauty.
Marc and Chrys were married on April 12, 2024, and due to a delay in the paper work, married officially on May 11, 2024, but they didn’t mind. Marc and Chrys celebrate the anniversary of their first date as their real anniversary, because they knew then how important they would be to each other’s lives. They moved to Warwick Rhode Island in October of 2025 into Chrys’ grandmother’s house and planned to raise a family there together. Chrys and Marc often talked at length about their plans for the future; what their babies names would be (Chrys liked Rose for a girl, Marc wanted Maximilien for a boy), how many they would have (ideally twins), and looked forward to living out the rest of their lives together in that little home by the beach.
Chrys had a lifelong struggle with their mental health, but was seeking help and working on themselves through therapy and rest. Their outlook was improving right up until their sudden and unexpected passing Tuesday morning on June 2, 2026, at the mental health facility where they were staying. While the medical examiner’s report is forthcoming, it was said by staff at Miriam Hospital where they were transported for emergency intervention, that they most likely died peacefully in their sleep before they were transported.
Chrys poured themselves into everything they did: their artwork, their friendships, their home life, and their career as a tattoo artist. In the 33 short years they had, they lived it well. It is our only wish that it would not have been cut so short.
