Danita (Dee) P. Gustos 67, of Pawtucket, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday November 30 2024.
Born in Oakland California, she was the daughter of the late William H. Smith Sr. and the late Sarah (Howard) N. Smith. She was the wife of the late James R. Gustos of Providence. Dee and the family were Navy brats residing in numerous locations before finally settling down in East Providence RI. She resided most of her adult life in Providence. Dee loved helping people and enjoyed her work as a CNA for many years in Alzheimers units before retiring due to health reasons. She enjoyed painting, writing poetry, solving crossword puzzles and listening to her favorite Elton John. Dee was an avid basketball fan and could talk to anyone for hours about her beloved Larry Bird while later becoming a huge Spurs fan where she would root for her favorite Tim Duncan; As an animal lover by nature, especially cats, she is going to be missed by her beloved cat Sammi whom she treated as one of her children. She had an indistinguishable laugh and a smile that could light up a room. She was very kind at heart and giving. Dee was loved by her many friends and neighbors who became like family to her at her place of residence, Geneva Plaza. She will be sorely missed by many. Dee is survived by her two daughters Stacy L. Smith of Riverside, and Sarah N. Smith Zabala (Jesus) of Providence. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart, Jordan Young of Riverside and Miranda Zabala of Providence. Dee also leaves behind her first great-granddaughter Eliana XIquin Romero whom she completely adored. Dee leaves behind brothers, William H. Smith Jr. of Oklahoma, Jimmy and Robert Smith of Providence and sisters Diane Soares of Warwick, and Yolanda Smith of Providence, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles whom she loved. Dee was preceded in death by sisters Gloria Jackson, Mary Connetta, Annette Byrd, Pamela Augustus, and Serbrena Malko, and
brother Michael Smith.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate her life with a memorial at Bell funeral home; 571 Broad Street , Providence RI from 3-5pm on Sunday December 15th, 2024.
