Elaine M. Nunes (Costa), 81, of East Providence passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, February 23, 2026. She was the beloved wife of Joseph Nunes for 61 years. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Amelia (Cabral) Costa.
Having devoted much of her early life as a full time mother raising her three daughters, Elaine later brought that same care and compassion to her role as a School Bus Monitor and Special Needs Aide with the East Providence School Department. She was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church. Above all else, she will always be remembered for her positivity, generous spirit and her deeply loving presence. Elaine enjoyed playing Bingo at Foxwoods Casino, word searches, traveling and spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, she was the loving mother of Cynthia A. Nunes, of East Providence, RI, Donna M. Correia and her husband Joe, of West Warwick, RI, and Debra A. Nunes and her husband Armando, of Ludlow, MA. Elaine was the treasured grandmother of Brendan Cody, Cameron Cody, Brianna Colizza (Correia) and her husband Nick, and Brooke Correia. She was the cherished sister of Steven Costa and his wife Kim, and the late Joseph Costa and his wife Florence. Elaine was also the adored aunt of several nieces and nephews.
