Gertrude “Trudy” May (Machado) Brooks,

Gertrude “Trudy” May (Machado) Brooks, 84, of Woonsocket passed away peacefully on June 4. Born in Providence on February 23, 1942, she was the cherished daughter of the late Alfred and Avis Amaral (Connors).

We remember our mother as a woman of strong will, creative spirit, undeniable resilience and quite the personality. Considering she only stood 4’9”. She was feisty, spoke her mind, but people that met her loved her spontaneity, her willingness to try new things, even at 84. She loved fast cars and even driving fast. She would always say “that’s coo“ she would never pronounce the L.

As a single parent raising 3 children, life was not always easy for her, yet she carried forward with a fiesty and adventurous nature that shaped the way she moved through the world – that preservance remains part of her legacy. She was a hardworking individual holding many different jobs, retiring from American Medical Instruments.

She had a tender place in her heart for many, Charitable foundations including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tunnel of Towers, Boys Town . That’s just tip of the iceberg of amount of charities she supported.

She had so many gifts and talents. Some of which she inherited from her father. Mom could draw, paint, sew and make her own patterns from newspaper. She would cut hair, fix cars, and build things. Yet she was a simple person who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life – long car drives, going to the ocean and had a love for gardening. She enjoyed sitting around the table drinking her coffee and catching up on the days events.

She was our beloved mother that leaves us behind: Michelle Burke of NY, Anthony “Tony”Machado of Woonsocket, RI, Michael (Lisa) Machado of FL . She also had 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
