Helen J. (Campbell) McMillan

Helen J. (Campbell) McMillan, 89, who could always be counted on for love and support by family and friends, died Oct. 25.
She was born March 13, 1935, in Providence, the youngest of four children to Bernard and Elizabeth (Kiernan) Campbell.

She attended Blessed Sacrament and St. Pius schools before graduating in 1952 from St. Xavier Academy, all of Providence.

She married Robert J. McMillan in 1959. The couple moved to North Providence in 1963, where they lived for more than 40 years.

Helen was a skilled bookkeeper, working for various companies, including Al St. Pierre & Sons electricians, as well as assisting her accountant husband with tax returns.

Helen was devoted to her family, friends, and the Catholic Church. She kept the books for various parishes, including St. Lawrence Church, where she was a communicant and catechism teacher for many years. She was also recruited as an assistant coach to keep the scorebooks for the North Providence softball teams on which her daughter played.

She and Bob traveled, often with friends, to various locales, including Ireland, Florida, and the Panama Canal. She also enjoyed reading and playing golf with family and friends.

She adored her four grandchildren, spending many hours caring for and visiting with them.

She was a faithful member of the “Peppy Pals,” a group of childhood friends. Even after moving to Milton, Mass., in 2014 to be closer to her daughter, Helen returned regularly to Rhode Island to have lunch with her longtime girlfriends at Twin Oaks and other restaurants, sharing many laughs and memories.

She is survived by her son, Robert (Deborah) of Warwick; her daughter, Jean Lang (Gregory), of Milton, Mass.; her grandchildren, Shawn, Abby, Maureen, and Zach; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Bernard Campbell, and two sisters, Mary Pratt and Katherine Creighton.

Her visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. and funeral Monday, Nov. 4, 2024 at 8:30 a.m. from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith St., Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Pius V Church, 240 Eaton St., Providence. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
