JoAnne Gelsomino
81, of Johnston, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center. The beloved wife of the late Carmine Gelsomino, she was born in Providence, daughter of the late Ophelia (Cinelli) and Edward Mendonca.
She is survived by her children-Edward Gelsomino and his wife Lee; Donna Paolino; and Tara Gelsomino and her husband Richard-as well as six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was the cherished sister of Annette Mendonca and her husband David and the late Ted Mendonca.
JoAnne was a loving and devoted family matriarch, with a kind heart and generous spirit. She enjoyed traveling, fitness, beauty and fashion (especially a little bling), and couldn’t resist anything chocolate. Her Christmas pajama gifts were legendary. She formerly worked as the pension and annuity manager for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 99.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, June 14th at 9:00 a.m. from the Nardolillo Funeral Home & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:0 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Visiting hours on Friday, June 13th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
