José Eldon Cortorreal, 79, of 238 Warrington Street, Providence, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, October 31, 2025, at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
He was born on September 27, 1946, in the Dominican Republic. José worked as a car salesman for many years before moving to the United States.
In 1999, José settled in Providence, Rhode Island. He made many sacrifices throughout his life, but the greatest of all was leaving his children behind in the Dominican Republic so that he could build a better future for them in the United States. He worked diligently as a forklift driver in a warehouse for many years. His tireless dedication and perseverance allowed him to support his family and ultimately fulfill his dream of bringing his children to the United States to give them a better life and a future full of opportunities.
After moving to Providence, José became an active member of St. Michael’s Church. He was a devoted and faithful servant who participated in many spiritual retreats as a leader and volunteered in numerous church activities. As one of the leaders of the men’s prayer group, he helped organize weekly visits to families in need, offering support and sharing the Word of God.
José is survived by his loving wife, Verónica Cortorreal; his daughters, Wendy Cortorreal and Jenny Cortorreal; and his beloved sons, José Cortorreal Jr. and Edgar Cortorreal. He leaves behind fourteen cherished grandchildren — Elijah Fernández Cortorreal, Isabella Fernández Cortorreal, Isaac Fernández Cortorreal, Jayden Cortorreal, Evan Cortorreal, Surami Cortorreal, Edgar Cortorreal, Yshalle Cortorreal, Eduardo Cortorreal, Armando Cortorreal, Cristian Piña, Welmin Cortorreal, Jhosttin Uceta Cortorreal, and Nelson Uceta Cortorreal — as well as two great-grandchildren, including Elif Cortorreal Laureano, and Albert Jose Cortorreal.
His legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will continue to inspire us all.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing he is at peace — watching over us with the same protective spirit that guided him throughout his life. His laughter, wisdom, and warmth will forever remain with us.
His love will live on in every heart he touched.
