Lauren Dorothy Smith Obituary

On April 29, 2026, Lauren Dorothy Smith answered the call of the Lord, returning home to rest from her earthly labor. Born on January 25, 1965, in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the beloved daughter of the late Florinell M. Smith and Reverend Carlton R. Smith.

Lauren was educated at Xavier High School in Providence and later pursued early childhood education at the Community College of Rhode Island. She also earned a Certificate in Graphic Arts from Katherine Gibbs, drawing inspiration from her favorite artists, Van Gogh and Picasso. Throughout her career, she served children and families through her work with the Providence School Department, John Hope Settlement House, and the Smith Hill Center. Most recently, she dedicated herself to caring for the elderly in the role of a CNA. In her quiet moments, she enjoyed drawing, fellowshipping with her church community, and taking long walks.

A woman of unwavering faith, Lauren was committed to sharing the gospel and was studying to become an Evangelist at Greater Love Outreach Ministries. She recently delivered a sermon titled “Brokenness to Wholeness” at a women’s gathering, speaking powerfully about spiritual renewal.

Twenty-seven years ago, Lauren and her identical twin sister, Laurie C. Smith-Greene, received life-saving kidney transplants. Lauren remained a passionate advocate for organ donation, always encouraging others to give the gift that had extended her own life.

Lauren’s heart was full of compassion, and she loved her family and faith community deeply. She leaves to cherish a host of loving family and friends.
