Marian Huggins Obituary
Marian Grace Richardson Huggins, 66, passed away unexpectedly while on vacation with family in Paris, France on April 25th, 2026.
Marian was born on December 13th, 1959 in Providence, RI. She was the youngest child and daughter of Doris (Mellen) and Wallace Richardson.
Marian grew up in the Edgewood neighborhood of Cranston, and graduated from Cranston High School East. She later attended the Community College of Rhode Island in Lincoln, RI, and completed the prestigious certificate program in radiology at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.
Marian was formerly married to Matthew Huggins of Argyle, NY in 1987, the father of her three children. She is a survivor of colon cancer.
Marian spent most of her professional career working as a radiation therapist at various hospitals and institutions, including Massachusetts General in Boston, MA, the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD, INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, VA, and Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. She also spent time working as a nurse at Hayfield Elementary School in Fairfax, VA.
In 2014, Marian moved back to her home state of Rhode Island to be closer to her beloved family. In Rhode Island, she worked as a clerk at the Naval War College in Newport, and lead concierge at Brookdale Centre of New England in Coventry, where she found much joy in assisting and connecting with the residents. Marian had just begun her well earned retirement six months prior to her passing.
Marian enjoyed traveling, playing the piano, doing crossword puzzles, and relaxing with her cat. She also enjoyed watching TV, decorating her home for all holidays, and most of all, spending quality time with her family. Her house was truly a home to all who entered it, and she loved hosting family gatherings.
Marian was exceedingly generous, kind, and warm. She was a devoted mother with an unmatched ability to provide gentleness, comfort, and support to her children and family. Marian always sought to help others and never wanted to rock the boat. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Marian was pre-deceased by her parents Doris and Wallace Richardson, and brother Dennis Richardson.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister Susan Berto; brothers Donald Richardson and his wife Timoli; and David Richardson; children John Huggins, Stephen Huggins, and Grace Huggins; and former spouse Sarah Huggins. Her cat Olive whom she dearly loved is left in the loving care of her children. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and a growing family who will remember her always.
