Rodney L. Woodson

Rodney “Nut” Woodson Obituary

Rodney L. Woodson, born on August 27, 1957, peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Rhode Island Hospital.

Rodney was the beloved son of the late LaNeir Fisher and Wallace Woodson. He was a devoted and loving father to Danyelle Metts and a cherished brother to Kevin Pettis and his wife Vivian. Rodney was predeceased by his siblings Tawanda Fisher, Franklin Pettis, and LaNeir Dawn Pettis.

After enduring health challenges beginning January 17, 2026, Rodney entered eternal rest surrounded by love. He was not alone when he transitioned; by his side were his brother Kevin Pettis, sister-in-love Vivian Godley Pettis, and Pastor Angel Corprew Brown. Together they prayed with him, anointed him, read Psalm 23, and held his hands as he peacefully answered the call of the Lord.

Rodney loved the Lord deeply and walked faithfully in his belief. He was an avid reader of Our Daily Bread, a devotional he requested and received from Kevin and Vivian. Through his trials, Rodney remained a brave and courageous soldier of God, demonstrating unwavering faith, strength, and dignity.

Rodney was known for his generous and giving spirit. His home was always open to anyone in need, reflecting the kindness of his heart. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including fishing, listening to old-school music, and watching his favorite television programs, especially soap operas, game shows, Judge Judy, and Meet the Press.

A passionate sports fan, Rodney proudly supported the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia 76ers. He shared a close and loving bond with his brother Kevin; the two spent frequent time together throughout the week. Rodney could always rely on Kevin for companionship, transportation, and help with errands, a testament to their unbreakable brotherly love.

Rodney honorably served as a member of the National Guard. He was also celebrated for his culinary talents, particularly on the grill. Whether summer or winter, especially during football season, Rodney delighted in cooking for family and friends, bringing people together with warmth, laughter, and love.

Rodney will be remembered for his radiant smile that could light up any room and his wonderful sense of humor. Despite his suffering, he remained a reliable friend and a devoted family man who never stopped caring for others.

Rodney, we love you today and always. We are grateful for the love you shared with us and for the peace God granted you as He prepared you for your eternal home. Though our hearts are heavy, we trust in God’s perfect timing. We know God was waiting with His arms stretched wide, welcoming you into everlasting peace. One day, those who love and believe in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, just as you did, will see you again.

We do not say goodbye, but simply, “See you in a while, beloved Rodney.”

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Rhode Island Hospital and The Bell Funeral Home, Inc. for their kindness, care, and support. We also thank all who visited Rodney, encouraged him, and lifted him in prayer. Special thanks to Philly, Joanie, and Curtis for your loving care of our beloved Rodney.
