Camp RYSE is a free, five-week summer day camp that fosters literacy, confidence, and community among K-9 refugee youth in Rhode Island. The program offers literacy and STEM instruction, community-building activities, recreation, and enrichment. Since 2011, this program has effectively combated the summer learning loss commonly experienced by multilingual learners by providing accessible, culturally congruent instruction and a supportive learning environment where youth connect with peers who share similar life experiences.
Volunteers are an essential part of ensuring that Camp RYSE operates smoothly and successfully. Camp RYSE Volunteers are responsible for supporting the camp staff and students to maintain a positive, engaging, and safe environment for learning and fun.
