Letters to the Editor 10.29

The Eye just keeps getting better and better! Now, twice a week and delving into tough topics not covered elsewhere, always with scrupulous integrity.

And the calendar! Whoa!

Methinks I have to carve out some definitive Eye Time every few days to keep up.

Thank you for a big contribution to our Beloved Community.

Dear Editor,

When I was a community organizer in the 60s-70s and a city councilman in the 80s, Knight Memorial was our most common meeting space for community meetings.  On the city council all of us fought to keep the neighborhood libraries open during very difficult budget years.  They are an invaluable resource.

Dear Editor,

Thank you for that [Letter to the Editor] article, Mark. The two takeaways I found most interesting:

– if a pop size is small, best not to use large ratio sizes. For example, instead of “544 per 100,000 — people are incarcerated from Smith Hill” it would have been better to state 5.4 per 1,000.

– poverty rates must be focused on in looking at incarceration rates, not just racial identity!

Sounds obvious when you think about it.
