Elizabeth | Epiphany Soup Kitchen
I’m the manager of the soup kitchen. We serve a hot meal to people in need every Saturday afternoon, and we also have additional handouts: we do clothing, we do toiletries. Anything they need, they can request.
We’ve seen an increase in people, definitely for the cold. Last week, we hit our new record for 46 people in one day. Usually we’re in the 30s, 20s.
I started in 2022 after I graduated from college as a volunteer coordinator. And I kind of morphed into this role by taking on more and more different jobs: resource drives, dining room coordinator, which is what I do here. I used to be a regular volunteer [in college], but I stepped up into the leadership role after.
It’s very humbling. You get to see a lot of different people. I just think it really puts you in perspective, like how much privilege you have. You can afford to eat, you have a car, you have a place to live, a roof over your head, you don’t have to worry about where you’re going to sleep tonight.
