Sarkis Avakyan
83, of Cranston, passed away on August 30, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Rozine Maviyan. Born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1942 the son of the late Hagop and Trvanda Avakyan, he moved to Yerevan, Armenia in 1946 before coming to the U.S. in 1992 settling in Cranston.
His passion was music, playing violin and playing oud. After moving to America, he sang in the church choir at Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church for many years.
Sarkis was the devoted father of Hakop Avakyan and his wife Shushan and Harutun Avakyan and his wife Marine all of Cranston; loving and cherished grandfather of Sarkis, Rozie, Lusine, Alex and Raffi; and dear brother of Alis Avakyan of Armenia, Lusine Ekezian and Avak Avakyan both of Fresno, CA.
His Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 8th at 11 a.m. in Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic, Providence, with visiting hours from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to Funeral Service. Inurnment at Highland Memorial Park, Johnston will take place at a later date.
