Letters to the Editor 12.03

To the Editor,

With regard to Jon Howard’s article on school building demolition/construction [Can Providence Afford $1 Billion for New Schools?] I have one suggestion for taxpayers: insist on: a solid plan for properly maintaining any new or renovated schools, as government officials tend to like new starts more than the dreary business of maintenance.  The existing schools aren’t really that old compared to many buildings in the state, but neglect always takes a toll, as we’ve also seen with bridges and sidewalks
