A beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Carolyn Jean Brown, 79, of East Greenwich, passed peacefully on April 11th surrounded by her loving family. Born in Malden, MA, on April 12th, 1945, she was a cherished daughter of Millard and Marjorie (Maxell) Brown and leaves behind two children, Lois (Maldonado) Archambault and her husband Joseph of Cranston, and Gino Maldonado, of East Greenwich. She is also survived by her sister, Lois (Brown) Kadel of New Hampshire; and her brother, Bill Bailey, of Malden; and five beautiful grandchildren by whom she will be sorely missed.
Raised in a military family, she married a US Army Veteran and worked as a receptionist in the Department of the US Navy. After her husband came back from Viet Nam, she devoted her life to work and raising her children.
An extremely hardworking and dedicated mother, she was otherwise mostly quiet, introspective, and kept pretty much to herself and her family. Carolyn will be remembered and revered as a kind courageous, generous, and compassionate woman.
Having had a unique training and employment opportunity in the early 1990’s, she maintains the distinction of having been the first female journeyman pipefitter to graduate from trade school and work at Electric Boat Company in Quonset where she served for over 20 years.
Carolyn was a member & congregant at Westminster Unitarian Church in East Greenwich, volunteering when she could. She loved the ocean, boating, swimming, attending theatrical performances, especially at PPAC & CCRI, singing professionally, at the well-known, Harborside restaurant and lounge, she loved all animals.
