In Loving Memory of Irma Garmon
August 17, 1935 – December 20, 2024
Irma H. Garmon, 89, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on December 20, 2024. Born on August 17, 1935, in the town of Council, North Carolina, she was the eldest of nine children of the late William Elijah Sr. and Mary Beatty.
Irma’s life was a testament to love, family, and unwavering devotion to God. While living in Rhode Island, she met her husband and soulmate, Leroy Garmon. Together, they built a marriage rooted in faith, love, and mutual respect, lasting 48 beautiful years. Their union was blessed with six children: Melanie, Rhett (Yula), Gregory Sr. (Lisa), Mary, Cynthia (Robert Jr.), and Jeffrey. As the matriarch of the Garmon family, Irma instilled a deep sense of faith, Christian values, and unconditional love in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, leaving a legacy that will endure for generations.
Irma, Leroy, and their family were devoted members of Allen A.M.E. Church, where she served faithfully in various roles, including as a member of the Women’s Missionary Society, the Pastor’s Aide Society, the Senior Choir, the Stewardess Board, and as a Deaconess. Her dedication to her church family reflected her steadfast faith and her passion for serving others.
Irma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leroy Garmon; her son, Jeffrey Garmon; her parents, William Elijah Sr. and Mary Beatty; her brothers, William Jr. and Thomas Beatty (Lillie); and her sister, Edith McLaurin (Moses)
Irma is survived by her five siblings: Rufus Beatty, Fannie Jones (Sylvester), Christine Dozier (Dewain), Nancy Troy (Dennis)and Gary Beatty (Veronica). She is also survived by her nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren:

Additional Family:
In addition to her family, Irma was affectionately known as “Ma” to Helen Leporacci, a bond that reflected her nurturing and loving spirit.
Known for her beautiful smile, warmth, strength, and boundless love, Irma brought light to the lives of everyone who knew her. Her life was a reflection of grace, her faith a beacon of hope, and her love a foundation for her family. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her loved ones. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
