A beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, Janice Norcini, 76, of Smithfield and formerly of Johnston, passed away peacefully at Stillwater Nursing & Rehab Center surrounded by her loving family on July 2nd, 2025. Born in Providence on May 28th, 1949, she was a cherished daughter of Corinado and Jennie (Storti) Norcini. She is survived by her only son, Jonathan Kerr, of Decatur, Georgia; her devoted siblings, Loretta Scivola of Johnston, Debra (Walter) Richardson & Catherine (Bruce) Fratus, of The Villages in Florida, and LouAnn (Emo) Sabitoni; and her beloved granddaughter, Frances Kerr of Decatur Georgia; and several nieces, nephews, and friends,
all by whom she will be sorely missed. Janice was predeceased by her brother, Larry Norcini; her sisters, Cynthia Chadronet and Joyce Silva; and her brother-in-law, Alfred Scivola.
Janice was raised in a large and loving traditional Italo-American family in Providence. She attended Mt. Pleasant High School and began a career in the insurance field immediately following graduation; first as a clerk and later progressed to sales agent. Always ambitious, responsible, and hardworking, she took calculated risks for the betterment of her family, even relocating to Georgia for a number of years. Capable and adventurous in the kitchen, she was a fantastic cook and loved to try new and fancier recipes, most often to the absolute delight of appreciative family! In her younger years she was, at times, at bit hard-headed and “determined” yet such never detracted from her big and generous heart of ‘pure Italian gold’! A life-long reader, she especially loved history – fiction, and non-fiction, alike – and ‘anything Kennedy’ (JFK, in particular)! She also enjoyed relaxing with challenging crossword puzzles.
Her loyalty, selflessness, and strong sense of family love has been permanently instilled in all her loved ones and is certainly her legacy! She will always and forever be remembered and revered as a loving and caring mom, devoted sister, and adoring grandmother. May she rest in eternal peace until we meet again!
