We’re tabling with the Recreation Department. I actually work for the Sustainability Department, but we work pretty closely. And we are talking with people about a grant that the Recreation Department has to upgrade three different recreation facilities in the city.
Part of the grant consists of programming requirements, healthcare workforce and education. We’re also just asking people what kinds of programming they would want to be able to access at their different recreation centers.
I love my job. I get to work in a really amazing department of people who are very passionate about climate change and environmental justice. I ended up here because I applied to this position in college. I went to school in Maine and then moved here for the job. I came across the Climate Justice Plan in my job application process for Providence. It’s just an amazing collaborative governance kind of process that I found really inspirational and really progressive.
I grew up in Massachusetts and I moved to Providence January of 2024. I love it here in Providence. I like the size of the city. I found some really amazing friends. I love working, I feel like my job really lets me work in different communities, different neighborhoods, so I have been able to build relationships pretty quickly with people that I might not have met if I wasn’t working with them, so it’s pretty cool.
Annie Deng is a student studying Literary Arts and Biochemistry at Brown University, looking to explore the Providence community and share the diverse perspectives and experiences she encounters along the way. In her free time, she enjoys doing photography and volunteering at the zoo.
